MMMA Presents 1st Batch of Graduates Joining International Vessels

The MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA) held its 1st Commencement Exercises on February 20 as 51 Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and 40 Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSME) cadets from the inaugural class received their diplomas and their ship assignments onboard Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and MAGSAYSAY- operated vessels as third officers and third engineers.

“We have been through a lot of testing since 2018 and we have not only survived but we have emerged stronger. You cadets have gained the world-class education”, shared by Dr. Michael Morales, MMMA President, in his welcome message. “You not only have a job waiting but a promising career as leaders in the maritime industry.”

Inaugurated in 2018, MMMA is a partnership between Japan-based MOL, one of the largest shipping companies in the world, and the Philippines-headquartered Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MAGSAYSAY), one of the leading people resources companies for the global maritime industry. MMMA offers the highest level of maritime education in compliance with global standards and the ever-changing shipping technologies. MMMA develops Filipino students from different regions of the Philippines and prepares them for their future roles as leaders in the global maritime industry.

Aptly themed “Exploring New Horizons: Embracing Change and Growth”, the ceremony is another milestone for MMMA as it delivers on its promise of producing its first batch of graduates. The graduation of its first class is the rewarding culmination of three years in-campus education and one-year onboard training on international vessels.

Doris Magsaysay Ho, President and CEO of the Magsaysay Group, acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the graduates. “MAGSAYSAY is so proud of the men and women who are graduating today. You will be performing such important (and) essential service for all humanity. So, stay purposeful and dedicated so your dreams will come true”, Doris said in her congratulatory message to the graduates.

Since its establishment, MMMA has welcomed 1,407 cadets, underscoring its strong points of state-of-the-art training facilities, onboard training (OBT) opportunities on MOL or MAGSAYSAY-operated vessels, leadership program to develop a high standard of discipline, excellence, and service, financial support program, and a clear path from enrolment to employment.
