Homer Foundation Adopts School in Panglao, Bohol

Homer Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of MAGSAYSAY, is building a new classroom, rehabilitating two classrooms, and improving the pathway of Panglao Central East Elementary School (PCEES). The official groundbreaking and capsule-laying ceremony took place on March 1.

Through its collaborative partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Panglao Local Government Unit (LGU), Homer Foundation is living up to one of its advocacy pillars – education – and a strong demonstration of We Care to the community. The foundation entered the Adopt-a-School program, a partnership with private companies committed to share resources to improve the country’s public school education.

Currently, Panglao is headed by Mayor Captain Boy Arcay, a former MAGSAYSAY seafarer and a true testament of one who was ‘once a MAGSAYSAY always a MAGSAYSAY’, and still lives by the core values of the organization. He welcomed his former Fleet Director, Captain Joselito Navales, of Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC).

Capt. Navales was also joined by Homer Foundation President, Marlon Roño, and Executive Director, Alfonso Pablo Jr., at the ceremony.

To date, MAGSAYSAY has almost 500 seafarers in Bohol in which a hundred reside in Panglao.
