One year after its launch at the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP) in Mariveles, Bataan, the MOL Dynamic Positioning (DP) Training Center Philippines marked its first anniversary on August 4, 2026, having completed 11 training batches and now looking to expand access to DP training for more maritime professionals.
Established through a partnership among MOL Maritex Co., Ltd. (MOLMAT), MAAP, and Magsaysay Training Center (MTC), the center offers five programs accredited by the Nautical Institute (NI): DP Induction, DP Simulator, DP Revalidation, DP Vessel Maintainer, and DP Sea Time Reduction.
The anniversary celebration brought together MAAP President VADM Eduardo Ma Santos, MPRC President Marlon Roño, and MOLMAT President Kyoya Nitta, who reflected on the center’s first year and its direction moving forward.
For MPRC President Marlon Roño, the milestone reflects the shared goal behind the partnership: preparing Filipino seafarers for the opportunities ahead.
“One year ago, MOL Maritex, MAAP, and Magsaysay Training Center came together with one shared vision: to prepare Filipino seafarers not only for the jobs of today, but for the opportunities of tomorrow,” Roño said. “In just one year, a total of 11 batches of trainees have completed five Dynamic Positioning programs. This milestone reminds us that the greatest investment we can make is not in facilities or technology, but in people.”
As the center enters its second year, the partners are exploring ways to make DP training more accessible to seafarers in Manila. MAAP President VADM Eduardo Ma Santos shared plans to conduct the lecture component of the DP Induction Course at a MAAP classroom in the AMOSUP facility in Manila, with simulator training continuing at the MAAP campus in Bataan.
“This is just the beginning,” he said, noting the goal of training more Filipino and other interested maritime professionals for offshore operations, particularly the emerging offshore wind sector.
For MOLMAT President Kyoya Nitta, the first year demonstrates the progress made through the partnership.
“One year ago, we launched this center with a shared vision: to develop highly skilled maritime professionals who can support the future of the offshore industry. Today, I am proud to say that this dream is becoming a reality,” Nitta said.
With new opportunities emerging across the maritime industry, the MOL DP Training Center Philippines enters its second year focused on reaching more trainees and strengthening the skills needed for the future.
