MAGSAYSAY, Sailors’ Society Celebrates Sea Sunday

The Sailors’ Society stands out as an exceptional global maritime welfare charity that provides unwavering support to seafarers and their families during challenging times. Since its inception in 1818, spanning over 200 years, the organization has continually expanded its reach thanks to the unyielding dedication of preachers and laymen who tirelessly work to alleviate the hardships faced by distressed sailors. This commitment has remained steadfast and has evolved to encompass the entire seafaring journey, from the early days of training to the moment seafarers embark on their voyages.

Seafarers, deserving of our prayers and support, hold a special place in the Sailors’ Society Sea Sunday – an esteemed day dedicated to celebrating, expressing deep gratitude, and paying homage to their remarkable contributions. Traditionally observed on the second Sunday of July, this meaningful occasion serves as a heartfelt acknowledgment of their invaluable role in global trade. Since 2012, the Sailors’ Society, in collaboration with partner organizations in the Philippines, has consistently orchestrated diverse activities and initiatives to honor seafarers and generate funds for the organization’s vital programs and services. These endeavors encompass various avenues, ensuring seafarers receive the recognition and support they deserve.

Furthermore, MAGSAYSAY’s corporate and social responsibility arm, the Homer Foundation, has played a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of seafarers. Their meaningful contributions have significantly enhanced the efforts of the Sailors’ Society in ensuring the welfare of seafarers.  Together, Sailors’ Society and the Homer Foundation are making a lasting impact on the lives of seafarers by prioritizing their health and well-being.

The Sea Sunday 2023 was held on July 9 at the prestigious Church of the Holy Trinity in Forbes Park, Makati City, Metro Manila. Themed, “Calming the Storm,” it served as a testament to the unwavering commitment that stems from the profound story of Jesus calming the storm in Matthew’s gospel. This powerful narrative resonates deeply within us, reminding us of the transformative power that can emerge from adversity.

The event became truly remarkable as it witnessed the profound impact of the Magsaysay Children’s Chorale, a group of 14 exceptionally gifted young performers, whose heartfelt participation added an extra layer of significance. The MP Wives Club, with the presence of six of its esteemed members, also provided unwavering support. The Sailors’ Society Manila Chapter Ambassadors and Pandiman Philippines by serving as the pillars of the event, provided a strong foundation of leadership, and coordination. Their remarkable contributions deserve high praise as they truly made a significant impact on the event’s triumph.
