MAGSAYSAY Participates in 3rd Safety4Sea Manila Forum

MAGSAYSAY participated in the third Safety4Sea Manila Forum at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila held on April 23. The forum is an annual convention of maritime manning companies and maritime-related government agencies in the country. Organized by the Safety4Sea, world’s leading source for maritime news and insights, and headed by its Managing Editor Apo Belokas, keynote speakers tackled topics that influence current and future situations of the industry from present challenges to the use of technologies in improving daily ship operations.

Among the speakers was MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA) President Dr. Michael Morales who captured the audience’s interest with his expertise on developing future leaders who will ensure and oversee safety at sea. Along with other proponents of soft skills and training, Dr. Morales joined the panel that view both aspects as an essential part of marine education to bridge gaps and make maritime professionals future ready.

In another panel, Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC) Second Officers Ismael Ibarra and Jhovine Delos Reyes, took part in the discussion on what it is like to have a career at sea — the pros and cons, social life barriers, and tips on making seafaring a path of choice for the young generation.

According to Apo, although the forum might not give immediate solutions to current issues, it serves as a good avenue for all industries to openly discuss crucial industry matters. These discussions may lead to the creation of policies and rules and regulations necessary to open more opportunities for maritime businesses.
