Lorenzo Shipping Donates Used Batteries to Power Change

Taking on the challenge of stewardship and sustainability for the environment, Lorenzo Shipping Corporation (LSC), along with its trucking company partners, continues to support Nestlé Philippines’ and Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) “Balik Baterya Program” which aims to collect used lead-acid batteries (ULABs) from PBSP member companies for proper recycling and production of new automotive and industrial batteries. In turn, the collected batteries are bought and recycled, and the proceeds of the sale allocated to chosen schools in far-flung communities in the country.

This year, the program had a turnover ceremony at Buenavista Elementary School in Gubat, Sorsogon. Part of the opening ceremony is “Safety Skwela,” a series of modules created by the core safety members Nestlé Philippines’ and MAGSAYSAY’s HSES, who also facilitated “Safety Skwela” to the 115 students of Buenavista Elementary School. “Safety Skwela” was created to raise basic safety education and awareness among students, aside from the training of trainers, among others.
