MMC Strengthens Sustainability Commitment Through Mt. Balagbag Tree Planting

Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC) conducted a tree planting activity on June 27, 2026, at Mt. Balagbag along the Bulacan–Rizal boundary, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible corporate citizenship.

Part of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range, Mt. Balagbag serves as an important ecological corridor that supports watershed protection, biodiversity conservation, and environmental resilience.

In support of the renewal of its Certificate of Accreditation and Permit to Operate with the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), MMC committed to planting 1,000 Narra seedlings as part of its environmental compliance requirements. Narra, a native hardwood species, plays an important role in reforestation and the rehabilitation of natural landscapes.

A total of 35 volunteers from the Compliance Department actively participated in the initiative, demonstrating a shared commitment to environmental preservation, community engagement, and collective responsibility. The activity was not without challenges. Despite a 30-minute rainfall, muddy and rocky trails, and intense heat, the team remained determined to complete the initiative. Their perseverance reflected the values that define MPs—resilience, teamwork, and dedication to meaningful service.

The tree planting activity was carried out in close coordination with the Mt. Balagbag Farmers Association of San Isidro, whose partnership was instrumental in ensuring the smooth and effective implementation of the program.

Through initiatives such as this, MMC continues to support reforestation efforts while fostering partnerships and employee involvement that contribute to environmental conservation and a more sustainable future.
