The Magsaysay Training Center (MTC), MAGSAYSAY’s maritime and technical skills training institute, has opened its new Gas Cargo Handling and Dual Fuel Engine Simulator Room—reinforcing its mission of upgrading the skills of Filipino seafarers and support the industry’s shift toward new technologies.
The new training facility includes LPG and LNG Cargo Handling Simulators, built for practical training in cargo and ballast operations. It also features the DFDE Ferry Simulator, which serves as the official facility for MARINA-accredited Advanced IGF (AIGF) training, and the ME-GI Simulator, designed to strengthen crew readiness for dual fuel engine operations.
The expanded offerings reflect MTC’s commitment to equipping seafarers with future-ready skills. Courses now include trainings for dual fuel engine operation with alternative gases such as LNG, LPG, and Methanol, with Ammonia soon to follow—ensuring Filipino crews stay competitive as alternative fuels reshape the marine landscape.
At the same time, MTC maintains essential training modules for traditional operations, such as cargo and ballast handling for oil and chemical tankers, and engine room simulations using the MAN MC engine model. These continue to play a key role in upskilling crews on conventional vessels.
“Here at MTC, training is not just about technology—it’s about helping seafarers adapt, perform, and lead,”shared MTC Business Development Manager Marl Jeffone Reyes. “We believe that true readiness isn’t measured by familiarity with a system, but by the confidence to navigate change, make sound decisions, and rise to complex challenges at sea. Whether it’s dual fuel engines or alternative gas cargo, our goal is to equip Filipino seafarers with the skills, mindset, and adaptability to thrive in modern vessel operations and contribute meaningfully to the future of maritime.”
With the launch of its new simulator room, MTC reinforces its role in developing Filipino professionals, equipping them with the skills needed to navigate and adapt to the evolving maritime landscape.
