After 1,030 days of academic and formation training, Batch 2022 “Akarioss” of the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA) was formally launched into their 12-month onboard training during the Academic Recognition and Launching Ceremony held on July 4, at the MMMA Gymnasium.
The ceremony marked a significant transition for the cadets as they begin their onboard training, concluding nearly three years of intensive academic learning and character development. Academy officials recognized the milestone as a reflection of the batch’s resilience, growth, and commitment to excellence.
Beyond the ceremonial launch, the event also celebrated the cadets’ formal acceptance into vessels operated by Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC) and Magsaysay MOL Marine, Inc. (MMMI). MMC President Arnold Javier welcomed 109 cadets bound for MMC-manned vessels, while MMMI President Teodorico De Guzman formally received 165 cadets under the MOL program.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan delivered the keynote message. “Matapos ang tatlong taon ng sakripisyo, pagsusumikap at paghubog ng disiplina, handa na kayong tumungo sa inyong onboard training at sa paglalaglayag ninyo sa malawak na dagat. Huwag niyong kakalimutan kung sino kayo, kayo ay Pilipino. Pilipinong marino na kilala sa sipag, galing, at malasakit. Hindi madali ang tatahakin ninyo, malayo sa pamilya, iba ang kultura, iba ang hamon, pero bitbit ninyo ang talino, tapang, at dangal ng isang tunay na Pilipinong marino,” Caunan said.
The guest speaker, MOL vessel Captain Reynante Santos, shared his inspiring story and life lessons he gained as a seafarer for years. Also present in the event were Magsaysay People Resources Corporation (MPRC) President Marlon Roño, MMMA President Dr. Michael Morales, MOL Chief Country Representative in the Philippines Yasunori Takamtsu, MOL Representative Dr. Toshio Hikima, and MMMI Director Capt. Masaya Itano.
As the cadets prepare to brave international waters, they do so with a collective spirit shaped by hardship and hope, and with the steadfast support of every hand and heart that helped lift their sails.
