MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy (MMMA) celebrated the graduation of the Class of 2026 on February 3, marking a significant milestone in the Philippines’ journey as a leading pipeline of global maritime talent.
The graduating batch, consisting of 84 Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and 100 Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSME) cadets, will continue their shipboard career as Third Officers and Third Engineers onboard Mitsui O.S.K. Lines’ (MOL) “blue ships” (vessels focused on advanced ocean technology and safety) and MAGSAYSAY-operated “green ships” (vessels using eco-friendly and cleaner technology for sustainability).
The Class of 2026 also includes Latin honorees and a graduate from an indigenous community, reflecting MMMA’s commitment to inclusive and global opportunities for Filipino youth.
Honorable Undersecretary Bernard P. Olalia, representing the Department of Migrant Workers, was the keynote speaker, gracing the ceremony alongside foreign dignitaries, local government executives, and global shipping leaders.
“Filipino seafarers continue to earn global recognition for their competence, reliability, and professionalism. Schools like the MMMA play a crucial role in shaping this reputation. By nurturing potential and adhering to high ideals, MMMA ensures that our seafarers are not only employable, but respected, relied upon, and trusted across the world’s seas”, shared Undersecretary Olalia.
MMMA Trains Officers for Life, Not Just for a Job
The maritime industry is no longer just about moving goods and supporting trade, it is moving toward sustainability. MMMA remains at the forefront in preparing its cadets for the evolving demands of global shipping. Guided by this year’s theme, “Beyond the Beacon: Guiding Voyages, Forging Futures,” the Class of 2026 enters the fleet as the next generation of sustainable seafarers—ready to operate advanced ships and contribute to a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable maritime industry.
The MMMA Advantage: Enrolment to Employment
Since 2018, MMMA has welcomed 1,985 cadets. MMMA’s strength lies in its unique “Enrolment to Employment” model, which offers (1) state-of-the-art training facilities, (2) guaranteed onboard training (OBT) opportunities on MOL or MAGSAYSAY-operated vessels, (3) leadership program to develop a high standard of discipline, excellence, and service, and (4) financial support program.
