Magsaysay conducted its Data Privacy Awareness and Compliance Training on October 22, 2026, at the G.E. Antonino Building to strengthen employees’ understanding of data privacy and their role in protecting personal information.
Conducted in a hybrid format, the session brought together employees from Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC), Magsaysay Global Services, Inc. (MGSI), Magsaysay Center for Hospitality and Culinary Arts (MIHCA), Navia Crewing Services, Inc. (NAVIA), Orione Crew Management, Inc. (ORIONE), and Magsaysay MOL Marine, Inc. (MMMI), with employees participating onsite and online.
The session featured Atty. Mary Joy R. Reyes, Attorney III of the Compliance and Monitoring Division of the National Privacy Commission (NPC), who discussed key data privacy principles, regulatory requirements, and the responsibilities of employees in safeguarding personal information.
Central to the discussion were the four fundamental principles of data privacy: transparency, legitimate purpose, proportionality, and accountability. These principles guide the proper collection, processing, and protection of personal information, ensuring that individuals are informed about how their data is used, that information is processed for lawful purposes, that only necessary data is collected, and that organizations remain accountable for protecting the information they handle.
The training also emphasized that data privacy extends beyond policies and compliance requirements. Daily practices, including how information is shared, records are managed, and personal data is secured, play a critical role in protecting privacy.
For Magsaysay, the training served as an opportunity to reinforce the role every employee plays in protecting personal information. By putting these principles into practice, employees can help maintain a workplace where information is handled responsibly and privacy is respected.
