Magsaysay Maritime Corporation (MMC) Executive Chairman and Joint Manning Group (JMG) Chairman Marlon Roño joined key maritime stakeholders in a panel discussion on strengthening the financial security and protection of seafarers amid evolving global challenges.
The discussion was part of the EU-ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package (SCOPE) Forum held on August 26, 2026, marking the 20th anniversary of the ILO Maritime Labour Convention (MLC).
During the dialogue, he highlighted the importance of investing not only in operational safety but also in the long-term welfare of seafarers and their families: “We can focus our resources on what we should really be doing, investing in our people. Many of us have invested so much in the safety of our people, extending even to family support, savings programs, financial literacy, and preparing our seafarers for life after sea.”
The forum provided a platform for maritime stakeholders to exchange insights and strengthen collective efforts to protect seafarers’ livelihoods and well-being.
